Tao Lin was born in 1983 in the foothills of West Virginia. As a pre-adolescent he rode a tricycle alongside his loving mother. As a teenager he lay on the carpet actually staring into his toy poodle Binky's eyes for considerable lengths of time. As a college student he Googled variations of "depressed loneliness novel" and discovered Jean Rhys, read her oeuvre, and moved on to Lorrie Moore, Joy Williams, Ann Beattie, Frederick Barthelme, Bobbie Ann Mason, Lydia Davis, Richard Yates, Matthew Rohrer, and others while sampling people like Paul Bowles and Dorothy Parker. After carefully researching his role, in the universe, as a depressed person with social problems, he wrote five books. Today you can view the covers of those books by clicking here.
